Edgy | Textured Family Portrait with Album Cover Vibes

Seattle Edgy Family Portrait Photographer | Seattle Music Photographer

WHAT?

We will talk about all of the pieces that make up who you are, your various personalities and interests, and then we will get creative! I typically start with a questionnaire (also at the bottom of the “Family Portrait” section of this website) and/or a phone conversation so that we can get to know each other better. It is just as important that you feel I am a good fit for you! Often, some ideas will be sparked right away. Other times we will shoot ideas back and forth until shoot day to design the perfect session.

WHY?

I began my path as a professional photographer by documenting late-night open mic sessions and working with underground hip hop artists in Seattle. I also grew up during the “Grunge” era in Seattle and I’m in love with that aesthetic. After years of capturing musicians in their authenticity, I now have my own family with little kiddos and I have a growing passion for photographing families. I am deeply connected to the power of capturing your family at this moment, before everything changes again.

However, my eye is not different when I think of capturing the essence of families. I still see that grunge, or hip hop power image. I LOVE texture in images, and an element that draws the viewer in. This modern, edgy, and non-traditional approach is how I would like my own family portraits to look and so, it is also how I shoot!

I look at each family portrait session as an exciting new creative adventure, and I treat it just as I would a concept shoot for a band. This is a chance for all of us to think outside of the box! What interests you and makes you who you are as a family? Let’s use that for inspiration! What do you do? What inspires you?

My other big “why” for shooting family portraits with album cover vibes, is that it is so much fun!

WHERE?

That really depends. We may decide to shoot in my studio with a textured backdrop, in an urban city-setting, in your backyard or cozy at home. We may even decide to shoot somewhere unusual like on top of a helicopter or standing hip-deep in the ocean if that fits you best. We can think big and then reel it in, if we need to (I rarely do). Think of your favorite album covers or band shots, we can work to recreate those!

HOW?

Even ideas that seem too far out-there often have a way of happening. We will pull our creative brains together and see what we come up with. The shoot is always tons of fun! I’m telling you, even the most jaded teens get really into these shoots! I typically think of one or two solid shots that we will work to create. From there, we will play around with the location, wardrobe, posing, and just get creative! When everyone is relaxed and having fun, that’s when we get the best shots! We can plan it out like an album shoot with one Hero Shot, some Head Shots, and various candid moments (for the inserts of course).

WHEN?

Typically it’s best to book at the very least 2 weeks out. I may be booked on the day you would like, so booking even earlier is always a better bet. $125 will hold your session day/time. The remainder is due on the day of your session. (fyi: I do gift $150 for booking a full session during a weekday between 8am-4pm). Check out my Pricing for more details as well.

WHO?

Um.. You? Are you in? Are you a musician or creative yourself? Do you have an inner rockstar? Does a more edgy and creative style of family portraiture fit your family? Then, yeah! You!
